Lady Gaga will appear as a guest judge for the season nine opener of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
“She was really present,” said longtime judge Michelle Visage. “She was really lovely.” Apparently the producers have been trying to get Gaga on the show for six years. Prior to shooting each season, the producers invite celebs, especially those involved with the gay community, including Cher, Madonna, Liza Minelli, and Dolly Parton.
The premiere show is a tribute to Gaga, and the pop star introduced herself to the group as a Gaga impersonator named Ronnie, before the contestants caught on.
“The producers and I are all from the same school — we are pop culture junkies,” RuPaul said. “We grew up watching the same things and when you grow up on the fringe, you really get to study pop culture. And so we’ve applied everything that we’ve picked up through the years to our show. And so far we haven’t run out of things to not only amaze the audience and contestants, but really amaze ourselves.”
The season nine premiere airs tonight, March 24, at 8 pm on VH1.
