Lady Gaga Launches ‘Jazz & Piano’ Second Las Vegas Residency [TICKET INFORMATION]
Lady Gaga is set to deliver a tribute performance for the late David Bowie at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.
Lady Gaga, who was already set to perform at this year’s Grammys, was chosen to be the one to honor Bowie, reported The New York Times. Longtime Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich revealed that though Gaga’s tribute won’t open the show, it will last a generous six or seven minutes and cover “at least three or four” Bowie songs.
“[Gaga’s performance] is going to be a true homage to who David was,” Ehrlich told The New York Times. “Particularly musically, but not ignoring his influence on fashion and pop culture in a broader way.”
Throughout Lady Gaga’s career, she’s often embraced aspects of Bowie’s persona as an artist as well as his experimental musicality. Before Bowie’s death, Gaga had opened up about the British icon’s influence on her in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“When I fell in love with David Bowie, when I was living on the Lower East Side, I always felt that his glamor was something he was using to express a message to people that was very healing for their souls,” Gaga told THR. “He is a true, true artist and I don’t know if I ever went, ‘Oh, I’m going to be that way like this,’ or if I arrived upon it slowly, realizing it was my calling and that’s what drew me to him.”
In addition to Bowie, the Grammys will also likely pay tribute to Eagles founder and guitarist Glenn Frey, and a B.B. King tribute had long been in the works, according to Ehrlich. It’s unknown if the Grammys will also remember Natalie Cole, Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead, and Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane, who’ve all passed away since the start of 2016.
The Grammys will air live on CBS Feb. 15.
