Lady Gaga could be banned in China after her well-publicized meeting with the Dalai Lama.
Lady Gaga had a 20-minute meeting with the Dalai Lama at the 84th annual Conference of Mayors that was held in Indianapolis on Sunday. The event, which was live-streamed on Facebook, featured the Tibetan spiritual leader discussing love, mental health and curing the problems facing humanity with the pop star.
On Twitter, Lady Gaga shared two pictures with the Dalai Lama:
While Lady Gaga seems more than happy to share her meeting with the Dalai Lama, people in China fear that it will lead to the country banning the singer, who has a sizable fanbase there. And, their fears already seem to be validated. China’s communist government has already ordered websites and media organizations to stop uploading and distributing Lady Gaga’s songs, and a full ban of her repertoire is apparently underway, according to Apple Daily, a Hong Kong newspaper.
In the past, Bon Jovi, Maroon 5, Bjork and Oasis have all been banned or forced to pull out of concerts due to similar acquaintances with the Dalai Lama, who the Chinese government believes wants to have Tibet breakaway from China and become a theocratic state. The Dalai Lama, however, has claimed that rather than pushing for full independence, he is pushing for only more political autonomy for the region.
