Lady Gaga Gets Emotional While Talking About Her Fame

It has been quite a year for Lady Gaga. While in a phase of self-reinvention, she appears emotional in her latest interview, discussing her new album and her stardom.

During the interview with CBS Sunday Morning, she revealed how difficult to constantly act like Gaga, the worldwide known stage persona, instead of her real name – Stefani Germanotta.

“I used to come home, and I think my mom used to watch me have a hard time washing it off,” she said. “I’d keep the wigs on and keep the makeup on and keep the outfits on. I was always trying — I never wanted to let my fans down. I always wanted them to see me in my art form.”

The “Million Reasons” singer then broke down in tears while talking about the downsides of fame. “I’m very acutely aware that once I cross that property line, I’m not free anymore,” she confessed. “As soon as I go out into the world, I belong, in a way, to everyone else. It’s legal to follow me. It’s legal to stalk me at the beach. And I can’t call the police or ask them to leave.”

But she admitted she had managed to cultivate a more private freedom, even though she cannot experience the same kinds of freedom as normal people; as she used to enjoy in the past. “And I took a long hard look at that property line and I said, well, if I can’t be free out there, I can be free in here,” she told CBS, pointing to her heart.

The pop star explained how painful it was to be disconnected from regular people once she knew success, saying that she longs for normal social interaction. “I miss people,” she continued. “I miss people. I miss, you know, going anywhere and meeting a random person and saying, ‘Hi,’ and having a conversation about life. I love people.”

Gaga explained that her album Joanne was a response to the need to be authentically herself. She added that “a lot of crying, a lot of pain, a lot of learning about myself” went into the project.

The songstress noted her recent dive bar tour. “It reminds me that if this were all to go away tomorrow, all the big success, that I would still be very happy going from bar to bar, playing music for people.”

The interview concluded after Gaga talked about the end of her relationship with actor Taylor Kinney, her upcoming performance at the Super Bowl halftime show and a trip to John Lennon’s “Strawberry Fields” memorial in Central Park.
