Lady Gaga Dominates 2010 VMAs
2010 is now definitively the Year of Gaga. The outrageous pop star took home eight awards at this year’s VMAs, including Best Video of the Year, Best Pop Video and Best Female Video. Appearing in a series of increasingly – but unsurprisingly – outrageous costumes, Lady Gaga was in tears while accepting her last award, singing a few bars spontaneously and revealing the name of her new album, Born This Way.
That impromptu harmonic outburst was unfortunately her only performance of the night. But MTV more than made up for it, featuring performances by the year’s biggest stars, including VMA veteran Eminem (with a surprise appearance by Rihanna), Drake, Robyn, B.o.B., Usher, Nicki MInaj and Justin Bieber, who was introduced by his big crush, older lady Kim Kardashian. Taylor Swift and Kanye West both took the stage to sing about last year’s "Imma let you finish," incident, with the hilarious Aziz Ansari introducing West.
Host Chelsea Handler started off the night with a cameo by Lindsay Lohan, who mocked her recent jail time, asking Handler: "Do you think anyone wants to work with a drunk?" The antics continued through the night, as the cast of the Jersey Shore made an obligatory appearance, gelled, tanned, muscular and shirtless in an on-stage hot tub. –AMY LEE
