Lady Gaga stunned the crowd at the Kodak Theater Sunday night for the 87th Annual Academy Awards and those watching at home when she took to the stage to deliver an impressive tribute to The Sound of Music.
Following an introduction by Scarlett Johansson, Lady Gaga appeared on the stage in white, with her platinum blond hair styled in loose curls, and then started belting out “The Sound of Music.” Over the course of the five-minute performance, Gaga also delivered on “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain.”
The Academy was honoring The Sound of Music at this year’s Oscars for the movie’s 50th anniversary. At the 1966 Oscars, it won five statues, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Music. Julie Andrews was nominated in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category. At the end of Lady Gaga’s performance, Andrews came out on stage, telling the pop star of her performance, “It really warmed my heart, it really did.”
Andrews, who went on to present the award for Best Original Score to Alexandre Desplat for The Grand Budapest Hotel, was not the only one to be impressed with Lady Gaga’s understated, but vocally powerful performance. While those in the audience showed their appreciation with a standing ovation, those watching from home commended the singer on Twitter.
