Lady Gaga cried over suggestions that she ripped off Madonna's music. The 25-year-old pop superstar became upset when the interviewer asked about similarities between Madonna’s 1989 song “Express Yourself” and Gaga’s single “Born This Way” released on February 11. “I am not stupid enough to put out a record and be that moronic,” she told NME.
When the interviewer followed up by saying that the reference seemed “obvious” and “intentional,” Lady Gaga went off, cursing and defending her song’s integrity, claiming the chord progression is the only similarity. “Just because I’m the first f–––king artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn’t mean I’m a plagiarist, it means I’m f–––king smart.”
Later in the interview, when asked about her new single “Judas," the diva was still stuck on the Madonna comparison. After saying her fans would “love” the new song, she began to cry. “I feel like honestly that God sent me those lyrics and that melody,” she declared.
During a recent appearance on Jay Leno, Lady Gaga claimed Madonna sent her support for “Born This Way” in an e-mail. However, Madonna’s rep told CNN: “I am not aware that Madonna sent Gaga an e-mail.”
