Lady Gaga surprised Tony Bennett by covering Duke Ellington’s “I’m Beginning to See the Light,” accompanied by the jazz orchestra to celebrate Bennett’s 89th birthday on Saturday. Gaga brought a giant birthday cake on stage which had been created by Duff Goldman’s Charm City Cakes, and asked the audience to sing happy birthday to the jazz crooner. The cake was a recreation of the one which was presented to President John F. Kennedy by Marylin Monroe. Gaga shared some details of it on Instagram.
After releasing their collaborative jazz album Cheek to Cheek last year, Gaga and Bennett both went on touring around the world for seven months to promote the album. The duo played its very last show at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Saturday night.
Both Bennett and Gaga seemed to have a great time on that tour, and she proved it on her Instagram recently by posting a picture of themselves, saying she’s “so sad that this tour is ending.” The singer doesn’t seem to need to rest since she also posted a selfie today on Instagram, captioning it with “LG5.” A new Gaga album is on its way, Little Monsters!
