Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt Russell will play the same character in the upcoming Godzilla Apple TV + series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
The father-son duo will both play the character Lee Shaw, an Army officer, in the 1950s. Kurt will portray the older version of Shaw, while Wyatt will play Shaw half a century earlier. Apple has shared that the series will follow three generations as it explores the mysterious organization called the Monarch from the Godzilla franchise.
The new TV show will continue the previous story that it told through the other films, Godzilla Vs. King, Godzilla: King of the Monster and Kong: Skull Island. It centers on two siblings attempting to follow in their father’s footsteps in order to discover their family’s personal connection to the Monarch. The mission they embark on will eventually lead to Lee.
The first season will encompass ten episodes in a cast including Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett, Anna Sawai, Anders Holm, Ren Watabe, Elisa Lasowski and Mari Yamamoto. Other stars have been included in the production of the series including Chris Black (Severance), Matt Fraction (Hawkeye) and Matt Shakman (Wandavision).
The Russells have similarly worked with the Marvel Cinematic Universe on various projects. Wyatt has starred as John Walker in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and plans on continuing the role in the new Thunderbolts film. His father has played Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, and also voiced the same character for the animated series What If…? By Disney+.
