Kurt Cobain Would Have Turned 46 On Wednesday, Documentary By Courtney Love Forthcoming

Kurt Cobain, the Nirvana frontman who took his own life in 1994, would have celebrated his 46th birthday on Wednesday.

Cobain was lauded during his life and still to this day as a voice of a generation. His gravelly vocals, honest lyrics and grunge fashion sense continue to maintain his cult following. During his career, he struggled with the interpretations of his lyrics and the way the public became invested in his personal life. Although his life ended too soon, with Cobain as frontman and lead songwriter, Nirvana has sold over 25 million albums in the U.S., and over 50 million worldwide.

There’s long been talk of bringing Cobain’s story onto the big screen. Other biopics of musicians like Ray Charles and Johnny Cash have done remarkably well at the box office. It seems only fitting to many that a musician as influential as Cobain, who had such a tragic end, would be immortalized in a film.

For now it seems that a biopic will have to wait, although a documentary might be on the horizon. Courtney Love, who was married to Cobain when he died, has a project in the early stages with director Brett Morgen at the helm. "Courtney is the one that brought me into this,” Morgen told the New York Post last year. "We’ve been trying to find the right time to put this film together and the time is now… We are going to do the movie sort of like a third-person autobiography — [as] if Kurt was around and making a film about his life."
