Former Miss Puerto Rico Universe Kristhielee Caride lost her bid to reclaim her pageant crown.
Caride had filed a $3 million lawsuit in an effort to be reinstated as Puerto Rico’s Miss Universe representative. This week, Superior Court Judge Eduardo Rebollo dismissed Caride’s case, finding that her behavior violated the terms of her contract, which justified PR Crown Entertainment’s decision to cut ties with her.
Desiree Lowry, national director of Miss Universe Puerto Rico, testified against Caride, citing multiple instances in which Caride did not live up to her title. Among the incidents Lowry noted were Caride bailing on a TV interview due to traffic concerns and her refusal to go to the salon that PR Crown Entertainment employed for her use.
It was announced in March of this year that Caride had lost her crown, and that runner-up Brenda Jimenez would take her place at the Miss Universe pageant. At the time, Caride apologized, blaming her offenses on “having a bad day.”
“Beauty queens are not exempt from having a bad day,” the pageant winner wrote in a Facebook post announcing her dethronement. “I allowed my feelings to get in the way of my work.”
Caride is the first Puerto Rico Miss Universe to lose her crown ahead of a Miss Universe pageant.
