Kleyo De Abreu, a young British woman traveling through Spain, died during a bungee jumping incident outside of Granada Tuesday.
Abreu, 23, bungee jumped off of the Tablate Bridge in Lanjaron, which sits roughly 35 miles from Granada. It is believed that Abreu, who was there with her aunt, hit the wall of the bridge at some point during her jump, reported Sky News.
“Although it is too early to draw any conclusions about the circumstances of the death, one of the lines of inquiry is that there was a miscalculation with the rope,” said a spokesman for the Guardia Civil in Granada.
Britain’s Foreign Office confirmed the De Abreu’s death and have reached out to her family. “We are liaising with the Spanish authorities and have contacted the family to offer support at this difficult time,” a spokesperson said.
At this point, it’s unknown if De Abreu, who’d been staying with her aunt at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, had jumped with a local company or if she had taken on the bungee jumping feat on her own.
