Game of Thrones star Kit Harington is reportedly in talks to play Guy Fawkes for a BBC miniseries.
Harington, who is best known for playing Jon Snow on HBO’s Game of Thrones, has a new TV project in the works. The actor is in talks to star in a three-part miniseries about the 17th Century British radical Guy Fawkes called Gunpowder, Deadline reports.
UK production company Kudus, which is behind popular shows Broadchurch and Humans, will be producing the Guy Fawkes series for BBC. Harington, who has expressed a desire to write and produce for TV, will reportedly produce Gunpowder through his Thriker Films banner.
Gunpowder will be set in 1605 when Fawkes and a group of provincial English Catholics tried to blow up the House of Lords and assassinate King James I in the hopes of putting a Catholic back on the throne. Dubbed the Gunpowder Plot, Fawkes’ plans were foiled when authorities caught Fawkes with explosives.
Guy Fawkes Night is celebrated on Nov. 5 in the UK with fireworks and the burning of Fawkes’ effigy.
Before Gunpowder hits TV screens, Harington will be seen reprising the part of Jon Snow when Game of Thrones returns for its seventh season next summer. On the big screen, Harington will be seen playing the titular role in The Death and Life of John F. Donovan.
