King Charles has reportedly threatened to cut off his brother Prince Andrew financially if he refuses to leave his home of over two decades, Royal Lodge, and move to the smaller Frogmore Cottage.
The Duke of York hasn’t had any official duties since 2019 due to his controversial involvement with Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex trafficker who died by suicide in a New York City jail in 2019. Prince Andrew settled a sexual harassment lawsuit with an American woman, Virginia Giuffre, in 2022.
Prince Andrew resides in Royal Lodge, a 30-room property valued at $37 million, with his ex-wife, the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson. According to close friends of the royal family, King Charles is urging his younger brother to move into Frogmore Cottage, the former home of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Prince Andrew may also be forced to fund his living expenses, which are estimated to be $5 million annually. It’s also speculated that Prince William may move into the Royal Lodge if Prince Andrew vacates it, solidifying his position as the next heir to the throne. The King reportedly considered cutting Prince Andrew off if he did not abide by his request.
Without a solid source of income, the move would greatly lessen Prince Andrew’s living costs. Last year, Prince Andrew allegedly could not afford the £400,000 (roughly $500,000) upkeep cost of Royal Lodge. Recent photos of the Royal Lodge have emerged, showing damage to the property that needs extensive repair.
Part of Prince Andrew’s 75-year lease is that he must maintain the state of the property. Prince Andrew is still set on staying at Royal Lodge, where he has lived since 2003.
