King Charles is growing increasingly impatient with his brother, Prince Andrew, after several failed attempts to get him to leave his $38 million estate, Royal Lodge.
The disgraced Duke of York, 64, has made himself comfortable in the 30-room mansion on the Windsor estate after he was given a 75-year lease on the property in 2004 by the late Queen Elizabeth—under the condition that he maintains it.
After the Duke’s downfall over his ties with convicted pedophile Jeffery Epstein, Charles has tried to remove Andrew from Royal Lodge by placing him into a smaller home. Still, the Duke is said to have refused to leave after multiple attempts.
To force the Duke out, the King has now removed his brother’s security, which is estimated to cost $4 million annually.
Charles has reportedly made it clear that “only two options” are left for the Duke.
If Andrew wanted to stay on the property, he would have to fund his own private security, or he would have to relocate to a smaller royal residence and keep his security—something that he seems to be adamantly against.
The Duke ended his career as a working royal in 2019 in light of the Epstein scandal. It’s improbable that he will be able to afford the security bill on his own.
Reportedly, the King is happy to continue paying his brother’s living expenses if he moves into the smaller Frogmore Cottage and continues to provide for Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.
In an effort to accommodate the King’s ultimatums, Andrew has reportedly planned to pass on the lease to his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, so they can utilize the property after the Duke’s death.
If Andrew refuses to downsize, Charles plans to rent out Frogmore Cottage for an estimated $1.3 million annually.
