King Charles Demands Palace Staff Iron His Shoelaces, Bring Custom Toilet Seat & Paper On Trips For Him

Royal reporter Omid Scobie‘s recently published book Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival revealed the British monarch King Charles III‘s “extravagant” daily demands and idiosyncrasies.

Scobie writes that Charles, 75, has specific and seemingly “ridiculous” requirements for the Buckingham Palace staff. For instance, he insists that his soft-boiled eggs be cooked for precisely four minutes—no more, no less—otherwise, they will be returned to the kitchen in a fit of childish anger.

Charles also expects his travel accommodations to meet high standards and demands “perfectly steamed” bedsheets made from 1,000-thread-count fabric. Additionally, he reportedly throws “temper tantrums” if his pajamas are not meticulously pressed.

Despite his reported net worth of over $2 billion, Charles displays uncharacteristic frugality. He refuses to discard his old shoes and instead enlists a cobbler to continually revive them when they begin to deteriorate. The meticulousness with which Charles attends to his attire goes further, as Scobie says that even Charles’ shoelaces must be ironed.

However, the behavior that has caught the public’s attention the most is that Charles “likes to have someone squeeze exactly one inch of toothpaste onto his toothbrush for him ahead of his bedtime routine.”

“But it doesn’t end there,” Scobie wrote, and continued, “The cherry on top of this ridiculous extravagance: the toothpaste must come from a ‘crested silver dispenser.’”

In the 2015 documentary Serving the Royals: Inside the Firm, Paul Burrell, former butler of the late Princess Diana, disclosed details about Charles’ peculiar bathing habits.

Burrell revealed that Charles is incredibly specific when it comes to the temperature of his baths, and insists the water temperature be ‘tepid,’ the tub must only be filled halfway and the plug must be in a specific position.

In his travels, Charles has been known to carry his own toilet seat and toilet paper. He has maintained a sentimental attachment to his childhood teddy bear, which he entrusted to his former valet when he reached his 40s.
