Kroy Biermann, the NFL linebacker and husband to reality star Kim Zolciak, was cut from the Buffalo Bills football team only weeks after signing with them, according to the team’s website on Friday.

Rex Ryan, the Buffalo Bills head coach, reportedly had to cut the roster of players down from 75 to 53. Biermann, 30, was among the 22 men asked to leave.

Biermann previously played with the Atlanta Falcons for eight seasons and signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills on August 16. The team announced his new position as an outside linebacker on Twitter.

“We’ve officially signed LB Kroy Biermann,” the Buffalo Bills official Twitter account wrote. “Welcome @biermann71!”

Biermann later tweeted his own excitement over joining his new team.  “So excited to become part of the Buffalo Bills family we can already feel the amazing energy,” he wrote. “#GoBills.”

Zolciak took to Instagram to write an emotional farewell and congrats for her husband. “Although Kroy is so excited as I am (my parents grew up there, half my family still lives there) never mind the fact the fans are AWESOME, the team is AWESOME and my hubby is ecstatic … It was hard to say good bye!” she wrote.”

Biermann is now a free agent.
