A Skims ad campaign shared on Instagram by Kim Kardashian on Thursday has received significant backlash due to Kardashian’s lack of tact in this sensitive period.

The holiday ad takes place in a giant mansion and features actress Kate Hudson alongside her family, including her mother Goldie Hawn, and her brother Oliver Hudson, with everyone in matching sleepwear.

The video shows the family devouring a lavish holiday meal, served by several butlers, as the children play with expensive toys. The family carelessly waves around decadent food throughout the ad and wastes dessert, with Hawn dumping a dish of red jello onto the carpet and Oliver running over it with a bike.

In response, Kardashian has been bombarded with comments condemning her for the bad-timing of an ad promoting a decadent lifestyle, as many in the country struggle financially.

Many online commenters borrowed Kourtney Kardashian’s famous TV response to her sister’s overblown reaction to losing an earring in the pool: “Kim, there are people that are dying.”

Neither Kardashian nor Hudson has commented on the backlash the ad has received.

Kardashian recently spoke out about the harmful consequences of sexism and homophobia in the Menendez brothers murder case.
