Just more than a month before President Donald Trump‘s departure from the White House, Kim Kardashian has petitioned for yet another sentence to be commuted. The reality star asked for a stay of execution on behalf of Brandon Bernard, who is sentenced to die on December 10.
Kardashian, much like her husband, the rapper and fashion designer Kanye West, has distinguished herself by being among the few celebrities to have an amicable relationship with the soon-to-be-former president. Using both her close ties to the Trumps and influence as a media mogul to convince him to commute the sentences of Crystal Munoz, Judith Negron and Tynice Hall, all of whom visited the White House last March.
Benard was convicted for his part in a 1999 carjacking turned homicide that led to the deaths of two youth ministers, Todd and Stacie Bagley. Bernard, who was 18 at the time, was one of three men involved.
Kardashian made her first public appeal via Twitter with a caption that read, “A terrible case has been brought to my attention and I need your help,” said the reality star. “Without it, on December 12th Brandon Bernard is going to be executed for a crime he participated in as a teenager.”
Later, she argued for Bernard’s innocence. “In fact, Brandon was not a part of the initial carjacking that took place and was stunned when the robbery turned into a homicide with one of the other teens shooting both Todd and Stacie in the head,” she wrote.
Bernard has publicly apologized to the family of the two slain Bagleys in a video where his mother makes a guest appearance.
