Kim Kardashian came to her husband Kanye West’s defense after it was reported that he singled out a man in a wheelchair to stand during a tour stop in Sydney, Australia.
Kardashian took to Instagram in an effort to defend West from criticism about his apparent lack of sensitivity, writing, "Kanye never asked anyone in a wheel chair to stand up & the audience videos show that. He asked for everyone to stand up & dance UNLESS they were in a wheel chair. #JustWantedEveryoneToHaveAFunNight #TheMediaTwistsThings."
At the concert Friday night, West reportedly said, "I can't do this show until everybody stand up." Refusing to start singing "The Good Life," West added, "Unless you got a handicap pass, and you get special parking and s–t. And I’ma see you if you ain’t standing up, believe me. I’m real good at that."
At least two people remained seated, one of whom was reportedly in a wheelchair. Unsure of what was keeping the people form standing, West continued to say, "This is the longest I’ve had to wait. Now, if he’s in a wheelchair it’s fine. Only if he’s in a wheelchair.” Finally, when someone was able to inform West that the concertgoer was in fact in a wheelchair, the artist continued his performance.
Addressing the controversy that ensued after the video of the incident hit the Internet, West took aim at the media for trying to paint him in a negative light during his next concert in Brisbane, Australia.
"They [the media] want the masses, the people who have never even heard one of my albums to somehow read a headline… and think I’m a bad person," West said, reported TMZ. "Look at me for a second. Take a step back and look at this. I’m a married, Christian man with a family. At my concerts I make sure everybody has as good of a time as possible. Pick a new target."
