Kim Kardashian Blogs About Her Daughter And Racism

Kim Kardashian wrote about her fears and concerns for her daughter, North West, and pledged to publicly fight against racism in a blog post published Wednesday, May 7.

Kim Kardashian Writes About Racism

The post, titled “On My Mind,” alluded to recent incidents involving her, her daughter and her fiancé Kanye West that have made her more aware of the racism that persists in today’s society.

“To be honest, before I had North, I never really gave racism or discrimination a lot of thought. It is obviously a topic that Kanye is passionate about, but I guess it was easier for me to believe that it was someone else’s battle. But recently, I’ve read and personally experienced some incidents that have sickened me and made me take notice,” Kardashian wrote.

Kardashian admits that she never felt any personal responsibility to fight against racism until she became a mother.

“I realize that racism and discrimination are still alive, and just as hateful and deadly as they ever have been. I feel a responsibility as a mother, a public figure, a human being, to do what I can to make sure that not only my child, but all children, don’t have to grow up in a world where they are judged by the color of their skin, or their gender, or their sexual orientation. I want my daughter growing up in a world where love for one another is the most important thing,” Kardashian continued.

Kardashian appears to be seriously committed to raising awareness and fighting for an end to discrimination.

“So the first step I’m taking is to stop pretending like this isn’t my issue or my problem because it is, it’s everyone’s,” Kardashian pledged in the conclusion to her blog post.

Kardashian Attends USC SHOA Foundation Gala

The post coincided with the USC SHOAH Foundation event that honored President Barack Obama with the Ambassador for Humanity Award. Steven Spielberg founded the USC SHOAH Foundation with the mission of documenting testimonials from those who had suffered through the Holocaust, and eventually grew to include historical testimonials about any instances of injustices, prejudice, intolerance, etc. The Foundation has gathered testimonies from survivors of the 1994 Ruwandan Genocide, the 1937 Nanking Massacre in Nanjing, China, and the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

Kardashian, who is of Armenian descent, attended the gala and posted a photo to Instagram of her with a survivor of the Armenian genocide.

“Honored to be at the USC SHOAH Foundation event to support Armenian genocide testimonies. I’m sitting next to the most inspiring 100 year old Armenian genocide survivor,” Kardashian wrote.

“I was able to sit with many influential people in the Armenian community including Yevnigue Salibian. Yevnigue is a 100-year-old survivor of the genocide and gave an amazing testimony… I was so proud to be there to represent and help bring education and awareness about the history of the Armenian Genocide. A truly inspiring night,” Kardashian blogged about the event.

The fundraising gala celebrated of the Foundation’s 20th anniversary. Conan O’Brien hosted the event, joking that the Foundation had been “recording evidence of intolerance long before Donald Sterling’s girlfriend.” Liam Neeson, star of Spielberg's Schindler's List, and Bruce Springsteen also participated.
