Kim Kardashian took to her Instagram story on Wednesday in order to address her husband Kanye West’s recent controversial behavior. Kardashian discussed West’s bipolar diagnosis and asked for compassion during this time.

She wrote, “I understand Kanye is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions at times can cause strong opinions and emotions. He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words some times do not align with his intentions.”

“Living with bi-polar disorder does not diminish or invalidate his dreams and his creative ideas, no matter how big or unobtainable they may feel to some, That is part of his genius and as we have all witnessed, many of his big dreams have come true.”

Kardashian added, “Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behavior know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor. People who are unaware or far removed from this experience can be judgmental and not understand that the individual themselves have to engage in the process of getting help no matter how hard family and friends try.”

She concluded by saying, “We as a society talk about giving grace to the issue of mental health as a whole, however we should also give it to the individuals who are living with it in times when they need it the most. I kindly ask that the media and public give us the compassion and empathy that is needed so that we can get through this.”

A source told CNN, “Kanye’s close friends and team are concerned and everyone’s top priority is to make sure that he’s getting the help he needs.” The source added that West was evaluated by a doctor on Monday and decided that the rapper did not need to be hospitalized. However, he is set to partake in another evaluation on Wednesday.

Kardashian’s statement comes after West had gone on a lengthy Twitter rant the day after his first presidential campaign rally. At the rally in South Carolina West was brought to tears when he talked about how he and Kardashian considered getting an abortion before his first daughter was born, “Even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world, even when I didn’t want to. She stood up, and she protected that child.”

Kardashian is “furious” at her husband for his words about North at the campaign rally.

On Twitter West bashed his wife by bringing up Kardashian’s 2002 sex tape and 2007 Playboy profile, “I put my life on the line for my children that North’s mother would never sell her sex tape.” He wrote, “I put my like on my God that Norths mom would never photograph her doing playboy and that’s on God I’m at the ranch… come and get me.”

He also called out Kardashian and mother-in-law Kris Jenner for trying to “lock him up.” West said, “Kim was trying to fly out to Wyoming with a doctor to lock me up like on the movie Get Out because I cried about saving my daughters life yesterday.”
