Kim Kardashian wore an elaborate Mystique costume to a birthday dinner this weekend, allegedly without knowing it wasn’t a costume party.
Kardashian confessed to her mistake in an Instagram selfie with Tracee Ellis Ross, who turned 50 on Saturday.
She captioned the story, “that time I showed up to a birthday dinner in full costume when it wasn’t a costume party!”
She then went on to wish Ross a happy birthday, calling her “the most beautiful kind soul.”
For the costume, Kardashian sported a blue, latex bodysuit and blue face paint. Her yellow contacts and slicked back, red hair resembled the X-Men character Mystique, played by Rebecca Romjin in the Marvel films.
In contrast, the selfie Kardashian posted shows Ross in a red jacket and matching dress, apparently not in costume.
Kardashian continued with holiday festivities throughout the night, attending a Halloween party at Tao L.A. She posted a selfie from the event with Diddy, who dressed up as the Joker.
The reality star faced criticism over the weekend for allowing her daughter North West to wear Michael Jackson’s hat from the “Smooth Criminal” music video.
Kardashian bought the hat at an auction in 2019, and she revealed in an Instagram story that it still has Jackson’s makeup on it.
Some have called Kardashian “disrespectful,” and likened this incident to the 2022 Met Gala when she wore Marilyn Monroe’s historic gown.
