Kid Rock was in the middle of a song at an outdoor concert when he decided to blast former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Kaepernick, 29, has been a headline in the media for about a year, since he refused to stand for the national anthem before each football game to raise awareness for racial violence in America. He has since been out of his QB job, and fans believe the NFL might be blackballing the activist.
Kid Rock, who is an outspoken Republican and Donald Trump supporter, is also an outspoken Kaepernick opponent. He aired that opposition at his gig at the Iowa State Fair on Wednesday. During the bridge of “Born Free,” Rock said, “Football’s about ready to start. You know what? F–k Colin Kaepernick.”
This is not the first time he’s said that expletive before the quarterback’s name. During the 2016 presidential elections, Rock was caught on camera yelling the same thing. Trump famously said during the election that if Kaepernick didn’t want to stand for the anthem then “maybe he should find a country that works better for him.”
A rally was held Wednesday afternoon on behalf of the quarterback against the NFL for potentially keeping him off the field. “No player should be victimized and discriminated against because of his exercise of free speech — to do so is in violation of his rights under the Constitution and the NFL’s own regulations,” said Derrick Johnson, interim president and CEO of the NAACP, in a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Kid Rock, meanwhile, is working on his campaign for a Michigan seat in the U.S. Senate. The rocker announced his run in July with a campaign website and available merchandise, though there was no evidence at the time that Kid Rock had actually filed with the FEC.
“I have had a ton of emails and texts asking me if this website is real… https://kidrockforsenate.com The answer is an absolute YES,” he wrote on Twitter on July 12.
