At the Michigan Republican Party state convention over the weekend, Tea Party activist Wes Nakagiri proposed Kid Rock as a potential Republican candidate in the U.S. Senate.
Nakagiri, a member of the Republican Party’s central committee, claimed that Rock could follow the Donald Trump “template” all the way to success. “I’ll bet you he would generate as much excitement as Trump did,” Nakagiri said, comparing the singer to the president of the free world, who used to host NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice.
Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, is a singer and songwriter. He is a five-time Grammy Award nominee and has sold 25 million albums in the U.S.
Rock has also argued that he was a rebel in the hit song “American Bad Ass.” Perhaps it’s those kinds of songs that has lead Nakagiri to claim that Rock has “name I.D., is an out-of-the-box idea, and would kind of get rid of that stodgy Republican image.”
Going by that logic, Rock, who once took a photo with a dead cougar, might be just what th Republican image needs.
Rock has been a vocal conservative, supporting Mitt Romney in 2012 and Trump in 2016. Following the style of Trump’s campaign slogan, Rock started a line of “Make America Badass Again” baseball caps and “Gods, Guns, & Trump” T-shirts on his website. Earlier in 2017, Rock said he was still “digging Trump.”
When asked for a comment to Nakagiri’s pitch for him, Rock did not respond.
