Kevin Conroy Reveals Details On Upcoming ‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ Animated Film

Kevin Conroy spoke about reprising his role as Batman, reuniting with Mark Hamill’s Joker, and the story told in the upcoming Batman: The Killing Joke film — in a new interview released on Sunday.

Kevin Conroy Speaks On New ‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ Film

Conroy has voiced the animated version of Batman for more than 20 years, alongside Hamill’s Joker. The pair are reuniting once again to bring the complex Batman-Joker rivalry back to the big screen.

“Well, I like to think I never left the voice of Batman. I’ve been doing it for 24 years,” Conroy told the Inquisitr.  “What’s wonderful about it is getting back in the booth with Mark Hamill, because that Batman-Joker relationship, it’s almost like Joker defines Batman and Batman defines Joker.”

“It’s the dark and the light, and sometimes it feels like either of us wouldn’t exist completely without the other, and Mark and I work so well together,” Conroy explained.

Conroy also spoke about Batman: The Killing Joke as a film, in comparison to its comic book version as written by Alan Moore. While the animated film does stay faithful to the original material, Conroy said he liked the way the film writers expanded on Batman’s internal struggles in how he will ultimately deal with the Joker.

“There are a couple of really wonderful scenes that I have with Mark that I’m really proud of. Like in most of the Batman stories, he goes through a real internal growth period and an arc,” Conroy revealed. “And the struggle is with the Joker. And he’s actually trying to draw the evil out of the Joker.”

“It’s a very cathartic process for Batman, this one. And it’s a very complete arc for him,” the actor shared.

Batman: The Killing Joke will debut in select theaters on Jul. 25.
