Kesha has filed a lawsuit against her erstwhile producer Dr. Luke for allegedly sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abusing her for a period that spanned a decade.
Kesha is claiming in a new lawsuit that Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, abused her to the point where she believed her life was in danger. The pop singer states that since she signed with Dr. Luke at age 18, he repeatedly made sexual advances towards her. He also made her do drugs and drink alcohol in an effort to lower her inhibitions.
Among the actions Dr. Luke is accused of is forcing Kesha to snort drugs prior to a flight in which he sexually assaulted her while she was drugged. He’s also accused of giving her pills that forced her to pass out and assaulting her while she was unconscious. An instance of physical abuse is recalled with Dr. Luke "violently thrashing his arms” while coming after Kesha.
"This lawsuit is a wholehearted effort by Kesha to regain control of her music career and her personal freedom after suffering for 10 years as a victim of mental manipulation, emotional abuse and an instance of sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Luke," Kesha's attorney, Mark Geragos, told TMZ. "The facts presented in our lawsuit paint a picture of a man who is controlling and willing to commit horrible acts of abuse in an attempt to intimidate an impressionable, talented, young female artist into submission for his personal gain. Kesha is focused on moving her life and her career beyond this terrible time."
Upon receiving the lawsuit, Dr. Luke and his lawyer have summarily denied all of the allegations. Kesha's lawsuit is "a campaign of publishing outrageous and untrue statements," according to Luke's lawyer, Christine Lepera, told TMZ. Dr. Luke has filed a countersuit, claiming that Kesha’s suit is based on lies and part of an extortion plot she’s cooked up with her mother Pebe to get out of her contract with him.
