In 2014, Kesha, 32, accused her producer and longtime business partner Dr. Luke (Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald) of sexual assault and battery. The singer claimed Gottwald had drugged her and called her inappropriate names. Gottwald sued her for defamation. Kesha’s attempt to countersue in Gottwald’s defamation lawsuit against her was recently declared to be “speculative” and “palpably insufficient and devoid of merit” by the court.

Despite the court’s declaration, Hollywood’s biggest stars have continued to show their support for Kesha. Supporters include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga. While Swift has donated $250,000 “to help Kesha with any of her financial needs during this trying time,” Lady Gaga has taken to Twitter to say, “There are people all over the world who love you @KeshaRose. And I can say truly I am in awe of your bravery.”
Kesha has attempted to sue the producer three times now, but Gottwald insists that she is only breaching their contract with each other and trying to damage his career. In retaliation, he has filed a defamation countersuit for the “substantial damages” she has inflicted with her “malicious conduct” against him. That was five years ago, but the record producer is finally getting his day in court in 2019 now as the case is set to go to trial next week.
The “TiK ToK” singer has been trying to void her contract with Gottwald, but the active defamation lawsuit has hindered any chance of that happening right now.
