Starstruck Management Group filed a lawsuit against their client of 13 years, Kelly Clarkson, over commission fees in the total of $1.4 million that was left unpaid. This new suit comes in the wake of Clarkson’s divorce from the son of Starstruck’s CEO, Narvel Blackstock.
The management firm filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court and alleged commission fees that were left unpaid for during Clarkson’s time on The Voice and her own talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. While the documents verified that Clarkson has already paid $1.9 million as of this year, Starstruck holds that she still owes $1.4 million, an amount that can grow by $4 million when taking into account their 15% commission fee.
Clarkson recently went through a divorce with Narvel’s son, Brandon Blackstock, with whom she shared seven years of marriage and two children. Clarkson cited irreconcilable differences in her divorce filing. In an interview with Today, she described that the most challenging part was how the divorce affected her children. The singer said, “What I’m dealing with is hard because it involves more than just my heart. It involves a lot of little hearts. We have four kids, and divorce is never easy. We’re both from divorced families, so we know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts.”
In the interview, Clarkson went on to tease, “This next record will probably be the most personal one I’ve ever released. The whole record is basically every emotion that you experience from the beginning of a relationship to end of what it is now. It’s been very therapeutic for me.”
