Kelly Clarkson released two new songs, “Mine” and “Me,” on Friday, ahead of her upcoming album Chemistry, which is set to release on June 23.

The American Idol alum took to Instagram to explain why she decided to release two songs instead of one, posting Chemistry’s album cover as well as a clip of red fabric with heart-shaped burns as “Mine” plays in the background.

“Having chemistry with someone is an incredible, and overwhelming, feeling. It’s like you have no choice in the matter. You are just drawn to each other. This can be good and bad. This album takes you down every path that chemistry could lead you down,” Clarkson wrote. “We decided to release ‘mine’ and ‘me’ at the same time because I didn’t want to release just one song to represent an entire album, or relationship. There are many stages of grief and loss on this album. Each song is a different stage and emotional state. ‘chemistry’ is out June 23rd! Pre-order and pre-save now at the link in bio. ‘mine’ and ‘me'[ are out now!”

Prior to their release, Clarkson shared the full lyrics to “Mine” and “Me.” Both songs discuss heartbreak and breakups, appearing to slam her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock after their costly divorce.

“Go ahead and break my hеart, that’s fine / Eternal sunshine of thе spotless mind (Oh, love is blind / Why am I missin’ you tonight? / Someone’s gonna show you how a heart can be used / Like you did mine,” Clarkson sings in “Mine,” referencing Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind (2004), a movie about a woman who goes through a procedure to have her ex completely removed from her memory.

Similarly, in “Me,” the 40-year-old Grammy winner sings “I don’t need somebody to hold me / Don’t need somebody to love me / Don’t need somebody to pick these pieces up / I put together my broken / Let go of the pain I’vе been holdin’ / Don’t need to need somebody/ When I got me.”

The Instagram posts have garnered Clarkson thousands of likes and comments by fans praising her new releases, with one user commenting that “Me” is “not a song, it’s an anthem.” Clarkson’s friends and supporters, including actress Candice King, were also quick to shower the singer with love in the comments section.
