Keith Richards, the Rolling Stones’ iconic guitarist, is acquainted with Donald Trump. On May 15, Richards quipped to the BBC that the American people need to “get rid” of the sitting United States president.
Back in 1989, Trump promoted Richards’ famous band during the Steel Wheels Tour in Atlantic City. According to Richards, however, Trump’s promotion for the rock band was billed as “Donald Trump presents the Rolling Stones,” adding how the size of Trump’s name dwarfed the Rolling Stones’ on the sign.

Richards wasn’t pleased, saying, “I got out my trusty blade, stuck it in the table and said: ‘You have to get rid of this man!'” He continued, adding, “Now America has to get rid of him. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!”
Another concert promoter, Michael Cohl, discussed the incident in more detail in August 2015, testifying to how Trump assured him he would not interject himself into the Steel Wheels Tour’s promotion aside from its Atlantic City portion. Trump also promised he would not personally attend the pay-per-view concert. Instead, Trump hosted a press conference in the neighboring building, incurring the band’s ire, forcing Cohl to fire Trump.
Mick Jagger, the Rolling Stones’ lead singer, also spoke to the BBC about Trump. He noted Trump’s peculiar usage of the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” during his victory speech. However, the band did not endorse Trump and asked him not to use their music during his events.
Jagger also talked about Brexit and his own life, admitting it’s “a bit limiting” to have only been a rock star. While he does appreciate his path and wishes to continue on it for the foreseeable future, he confess, “I’m very happy to do it but I don’t know about much else.”
Darcy continued, “[such 'Historic tension'] has resulted in headaches for the networks’ bosses.
