Actor Keanu Reeves revealed that he teaming up with New York Times best-selling graphic novelist Matt Kindt to write a comic book series that is set to come out on October 7. The series is titled BRZRKR and will be illustrated by Alessando Vitti and distributed through Boom! Studios which is known for producing Power Rangers and Bill and Ted.
The story follows a violent demigod who lives on Earth and is in search for answers about his life. The synopsis of the book says, “After wandering the world for centuries, Berzerker may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else.”
In an interview with USA Today, Reeves said, “this character who was born 80,000 years ago, half-man, his father’s a war god. It’s a little fantasy in reality. I had this image in my head of a guy fighting through the ages because of his father’s compulsion to violence,” but who’s also a man “trapped and trying to figure it out.”
Reeves noted that he has always dreamed of playing Wolverine and now would “love to play Berzerker.” He went on, “It’s a really fun story so if it’s not me. Hopefully someone can play it.”
In a statement, Reeves explained creating a comic book is not so out of the ordinary for him, “I have loved comics since I was a young kid and they have been a significant influence on me artistically.”
Kindt said BRZRKR is a “potent cocktail of all the things that we love: the tale of an immortal warrior laced with history, conspiracies, spirituality, and a gigantic helping of bonkers action and violence – all with intense purpose and ultimately a heartbreaking discovery.”
Kindt has worked on other action films such as Spider-Man and Justice League of America.
