Sophomore slump? Not for pop star Katy Perry, whose album Teenage Dream has hit number one on the Billboard charts this week. Perry’s second album, buoyed by hits like “California Gurls," has sold around 192,000 copies in its debut week.
Perry’s rise to the top of the charts will topple Eminem’s Recovery from the number one spot, where the album has held steady for seven weeks. In number two is American Idol winner Fantasia with her album Back to Me, which sold 117,000 copies.
Perry is the first woman to reach number one since Ke$ha did so in January. –AMY LEE
