Katy Perry Leads 2011 VMA Nominations
Katy Perry, 26, came out on top when the 2011 MTV Video Music Award nominees were announced on Wednesday night. The sexy songstress garnered nine nominations, three of which were for her "Fireworks" hit, including Video of the Year and Best Female Video. She was also nominated for Best Collaboration and Best Direction for "E.T.," on which she worked with Kanye West.
West himself was the runner-up for the most nominations, coming in at seven. His honors include Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Male Video and a second collaboration he did with singer Rihanna, "All the Lights." British artist Adele tied with West at seven, but while he was nominated for a smattering of songs and videos, Adele owed all her nods to the single "Rolling in the Deep" from the 21 album, which is the highest selling album of the year thus far.
Coming in at fourth place with four nominations was Bruno Mars, closely followed by female icons Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Nicki Minaj, who nabbed three nominations each. To see the big winners, check out the awards ceremony on MTV on August 28.
