Katy Perry and Riff Raff walked the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet in matching denim outfits as an ode to Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.

Riff Raff And Katy Perry Best or Worst Dressed

Perry and Riff Raff, who appears on the remix of her song “This Is How We Do,” arrived at Sunday’s MTV VMAs in a Lamborghini and immediately caught everyone’s attention in their all-denim outfits.

Perry wore a strapless, floor length, studded denim dress, accessorized with a silver choker, and Riff Raff matched his pop star date in a studded denim suit.

Perry immediately admitted that she had taken her fashion cues from the Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake circa 2001, when the then-couple arrived at the American Music Awards in matching denim outfits.

Riff Raff, who was clearly Perry’s plus one, excitedly announced that the duo were wearing Versace, but, unlike his date, he didn’t feel the need to credit Spears or Timberlake for inspiring his outfit.

Before the show, Perry teased her outfit to fans on Twitter, writing, “I must admit my outfit is a result of my love for nostalgia and my tumblr addiction.”

Perry also reached out to Spears on Twitter, writing, “I did my best impression, hope u likey! [sic]”

After hearing about Perry’s denim look, Spears reached out to the fellow pop star on Twitter and complimented her on her look, saying, “Just when I thought the denim dress had retired…you bring it back! You looked amazing tonight bb.”

As for Justin Timberlake, the singer has not yet given Perry and Riff Raff his stamp of approval.
