Kathy Griffin Posts Another Controversial Image Of Billionaires’ Severed Heads After Trump Controversy
Comedian Kathy Griffin caused a stir yet again when she posted an anti-billionaire video to TikTok, displaying graphic artwork of Donald Trump and other members of the 1%’s severed heads.
The clip pans across the artwork on the wall, which depicts the bloody heads of Trump, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg. Griffin captioned the post, “For the first time ever… no comment.”
The video was quickly met with many conflicting responses, as some internet users applauded Griffin for her unabashed political commentary, while others slammed her for the violent depiction of her personal opinions.
Griffin has a history of being outspoken in her disdain for Trump. In 2017, she landed on the No-Fly list for months after posing with a depiction of Trump’s decapitated head and posting it on social media. This led to her being fired from CNN, where she had worked since 2007.
After receiving significant backlash, Griffin took down the photo and apologized for the image’s reception. Griffin’s attorney Lisa Bloom stated at the time, “Griffin never imagined that it could be misinterpreted as a threat of violence against Trump. That was never what she intended. She has never threatened or committed an act of violence against anyone.”
Griffin later claimed that she had been questioned by the Secret Service over the photo and noted that in a 2018 interview with Stephen Colbert, she had “begged” the host not to discuss the incident. Despite her attempts to “ban” him from the subject, Colbert had persisted with his “Bulls— ambush,” throwing Griffin a series of questions she claimed were “laced with misogyny.” Despite her many requests to avoid the topic, Colbert “kept going and going,” grilling her until she was on the verge of tears. Griffin said, “I remember thinking, ‘He would not talk down to the guys like this. He just wouldn’t.”
Griffin further recalled that one of the staff members had pressed her about her adverse reaction to the Colbert interview, defending Colbert by saying, “He just couldn’t get over the picture. He just can’t get over it.” Griffin said, “And I go, ‘What’s for him to get over? I don’t understand. It wasn’t a picture of his decapitated head.” Griffin proceeded to double down on her right to take the photo.
As Griffin has continued to share her political opinions unabashedly, her popularity has suffered, and she has had to cancel multiple tour dates due to low ticket sales.
Last year, Griffin devoted a whole comedy tour to discussing the incident.
