Kathy Griffin
Kathy Griffin announced Thursday night that she would be walking away from her gig as a Fashion Police cohost after just seven episodes on the E! show.
“After seven episodes of Fashion Police, I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show and now it’s time to move on,” she wrote on Twitter.
“My brand of humor, while unrepentant and unafraid, is all about context. There is plenty to make fun of in pop culture without bringing people’s bodies into it,” Griffin noted. ” Listen, I’m no saint – I’m a feminist AND a Gurrrl who loves an offensive joke or a well-timed barb and you will find plenty in my repertoire. But I do not want to use my comedy to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance towards indifference.”
While Griffin’s announcement seemed to double as a pointed criticism of the show she had joined, she did wish E! and the team at the network well. She also admitted how thrilled she initially was to try to fill in the late Joan Rivers‘ shoes.
In response to Griffin’s announcement, E! released a statement to wish her the best – and to reassure Fashion Police fans that the show will go on.
“We wish her all the best and are grateful for her time on the show, as well as the many laughs that she gave us all,” the network’s statement read. “Fashion Police will return, as scheduled, on Monday, March 30 at 9 p.m. with our talented co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski and executive producer Melissa Rivers.”
Griffin’s announcement comes on the heels of Kelly Osbourne‘s decision to leave the show following Giuliana Rancic‘s racially insensitive quip about Zendaya Coleman‘s dreadlocks at the Oscars.
