Kathy Carpenter has been arrested in Aspen, Colo., and charged with first-degree murder in the death of local socialite Nancy Pfister.

Kathy Carpenter Charged With Nancy Pfister's Murder

Carpenter, 56, had long served as Pfister’s assistant. She is the third person to be charged in Pfister’s murder, joining former tenants of Pfister’s home – William Styler, 65, and Nancy Styler, 62. Carpenter, who called police to report finding Pfister’s body in a closet of her home on Feb. 26, was arrested on Friday by the Pitkin County sheriff’s deputies, reported the Aspen Times.

The Stylers were renting Pfister’s West Buttermilk, Aspen, home from last November until last month, during which time Carpenter served as a go-between of sorts. In January, Pfister, who’d been traveling in Australia, revealed on Facebook that her current tenants – the Styler’s – were not paying the agreed upon rent or utilities and that she was looking for new ones to replace them.

Pfister Calls Out Stylers On Facebook

“Hi everyone,” Pfister wrote on Jan. 24. “I'm still in Australia and I'd like to stay in Australia but the people that were supposedly taking care of my house are not doing what they said they would do and they're not paying rent and they haven't paid utilities.”

On Feb. 6, Pfister wrote, “Kathy Carpenter from Alpine Bank will show anyone interested the ropes, watering greenhouse, Gabe's [her labradoodle] stuff, etc.”

Weeks later, back in Aspen to confront the Stylers, Pfister was found dead. The exact cause of her death, though ruled a homicide, has not been revealed by authorities. Investigators believe that Carpenter and the Stylers likely conspired together to end Pfister’s life.

Carpenter and the Stylers are all being held at the Pitkin County Jail. All three suspects were expected to appear in court Monday.
