Kathy Bates looked radiant at the 2024 Emmy Awards. The night was extra special for Bates – it was a chance to show off her new skinnier look and newfound confidence.
Bates went to Giorgio Armani to select her dress for the evening, the first time in years. The experience was packed full of emotion. She went to the fitting with a friend. “We were in tears because everything I came out in just looked exquisite,” she told People.
In the end, Bates, who stars in the CBS series Matlock, confidently walked the carpet in a stunning shimmery purple Giorgio Armani gown. Enjoying her evening, she praised breakout star Anna Sawai, who was visibly moved by the heartfelt compliments from the esteemed actress.
Bates gushed over the photographs from the award shower afterward. “I knew I felt great, and I looked great,” as she reiterated how different the 2024 Emmys were from previous years.
Over the last few years, Bates has been on a health journey. In 2017, she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. The Oscar winner took this as a major wake up call to prioritize her health.
She started with changing her relationship with food. “I ate because I was afraid, and I ate because it was a FU to my self-esteem,” she said.
Social media was filled with speculation that Ozempic use was what led to her 100-pound weight loss. But Bates said that her weight loss had more to do with tuning into her body, a tip she got from her niece and eating a better diet, and more exercise.
“I have a treadmill here at the house, and I might try Pilates,” she said. Her lifestyle changes led to her losing 80 pounds, and she lost 20 more with the assistance of Ozempic.
Bates has been known in recent years for her roles on American Horror Story.
