Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy seemed to suggest that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will feature a new Skywalker character – and that future saga films could feature more members of the family.

Is ‘Star Wars’ Getting More Skywalkers?

In the ever-growing Star Wars franchise, movies are categorized as either “saga” films or the spinoff “anthology” films, Kennedy told Costco Connection.

“The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga. The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. The Force Awakens follows Return of the Jedi and continues that generational story,” Kennedy explained. “The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe.”

What’s caught the attention of Star Wars‘ fans in Kennedy’s statement is the phrase “continues the generational story,” which she uses to describe the saga stories.

It’s possible, per fan theories, that Kennedy could be suggesting that The Force Awakens – in addition to returning Luke and Leia – could introduce a new generation of Skywalker. It also lends to speculation that Episode VIII (directed by Rian Johnson, set for 2017) and Episode IX (directed by Colin Trevorrow, set for 2019) could also introduce future generations of the family.

Though no one has officially been announced as a member of the Skywalker clan, it has been rumored that Daisy Ridley‘s character, Rey, is Leia and Han Solo’s daughter.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams, hits theaters Dec. 18.
