Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb earned a four chair turn on the singing competition show The Voice during the fourth hour of the Today Show. The talk show hosts auditioned for The Voice as part of their new “Raising the Stakes” series, during which Gifford and Kotb take the challenge to get out of their comfort zones.
Even Voice host Carson Daly was surprised to see Gifford and Kotb when he sat down with them for a pre-audition interview.

“What in the world is happening here?” Daly said when he saw them. “They said that there was one duo this year — it’s you guys?”
Gifford and Kotb sang “You’ve Got A Friend” by Carole King. They also brought along Kris Jenner, Curtis Stone and their executive producer for support.
“I just pray somebody turns their chair around,” Jenner said as Gifford and Kotb, donning matching tops, took the stage.
Though Gifford could hold a note, Kotb couldn’t quite keep the same pace.
“Oh, Hoda, God bless you,” Jenner said when Kotb began singing.
Judge Kelly Clarkson was the first to push her button and turn around, with Alicia Keys trailing behind by just seconds. As soon as Clarkson saw Gifford and Kotb, she began screaming and jumped up.
Adam Levine and Blake Shelton just had to see what all the commotion was about, and upon turning around, Levine burst out laughing. Shelton and Keys gave the pair a standing ovation when they finished singing.
“Hoda,” Shelton said. “Kathie Lee saved your ass on that. 100%.”
When Shelton asked what the duo’s stage name was, they replied, “We call ourselves ‘The Whinos.’”
After some deliberation, Gifford and Kotb decided to choose Clarkson as their judge, saying it was because she turned first, and Clarkson handed them “Team Clarkson” jerseys.
