Kate Winslet named her newborn son Bear, and gave him her surname instead of that of her husband Ned Rocknroll.

Kate Winslet Names Son Bear

Winslet, 38, gave birth to Bear Winslet on Dec. 7 at NHS hospital in Sussex County in England after the couple announced that they were expecting in June. His name was just confirmed by the actress’ rep to E! News.

“They are all doing so well, they both absolutely adore him — and the name Bear,” a source close to the family told the UK’s The Sun.

Bear is Winslet’s third child and the first for Rocknroll, whom she married in December of last year. Her 13-year-old daughter MIA and 10-year-old son Joe have the surnames of their respective fathers – Winslet’s ex-husbands producer Jim Threapleton and director Sam Mendes.

Kate Winslet Didn't Take Ned Rocknroll's Surname

Winslet has never taken a husband’s surname, believing that nothing quite has the ring of “Kate Winslet.” Furthermore, she believes that she might be the only person who will carry on the family name, which might be why she gave the name to Bear.

"I quite like Kate Winslet; in fact I think it's very flashy," she told the Telegraph in September. "I'm proud of my name because I'm one of three girls and we have one boy in our family so essentially the only person who is going to carry the name along is my brother and he doesn't have any children at the moment."
