Kate Upton Reveals She Was Constantly Told To Lose Weight
Model-turned-actress Kate Upton recalls in her upcoming Glamour magazine spread that she was told multiple times that, as a model, she needed to lose weight.
KATE UPTON TOLD TO LOSE WEIGHT
Despite being a successful actress and model, Upton was told that her body did not quite fit the media standards.
“At first I tried to diet to become their image, but eventually I realized that it wasn’t realistic,” Upton explained. “This is just the shape of my body. So I had to block them out. I think that the people who are the loudest about wanting to change you are the people with the least amount of vision and creativity.”
Upton is known today for having beautiful womanly curves, and has been the cover model for countless magazine covers, including more than once gracing the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.
She does believe, however, that the trends in the industry are moving toward the positive, and that more people with diverse backgrounds, weights, and sizes are being accepted.
“Things have definitely changed in the industry, mostly for the positive,” Upton said. “We’re more accepting now. For me, someone like Ashley Graham, who loves her body and is always talking about it, is inspiring.”
The 24-year-old’s spread in Glamour will be out in October, and following that, Upton plans to marry her fiance Justin Verlander, who pitches for the Detroit Tigers. The date has not been set yet, and the two are “enjoying the engagement period.”
