Model Kate Upton is accusing Guess executive Paul Marciano of abusing his power by sexual harassing women.
Upton first made a comment about Marciano on Twitter, when she said, “It’s disappointing that such an iconic women’s brand @GUESS is still empowering Paul Marciano as their creative director” with the hashtag #MetToo. The model then posted a screenshot of her own tweet and posted it to Instagram with the caption, “He shouldn’t be allowed to use his power in the industry to sexually and emotionally harass women #metoo.”
Marciano, 66, founded Guess Jeans in 1981 before selling half of the company two years later. In 2015, he stepped down as CEO and became the executive chairman and chief creative officer of Guess. Upton, 25, has been featured in multiple advertisements for the company. Her posts did not specify if the executive ever sexually harassed her, but the inclusion of the Me Too hashtag.
“I can’t wait to tell my whole story,” Upton told TMZ on Wednesday when they caught her at the airport. She would not reveal more details, but said her personal account of Marciano will come out soon. “I think obviously it’s a huge problem,” she said of sexual harassment in the fashion industry. “I think a lot of people around [those in positions of power] know about it and need to speak out. Not models, the people around them.”
