Kate Moss Testifies That Johnny Depp Didn’t Push Her Down Stairs In Defamation Trial

The legal team for Johnny Depp called some last-minute witnesses on Wednesday who provided rebuttal accounts for aspects of Amber Heard‘s testimony for his defamation suit against her, which will be having closing arguments on Friday.

These included Depp’s ex-girlfriend, Kate Moss, who appeared on a video call to dispute a rumor brought up by Heard in a prior court session. Heard said that she hit Depp in 2015 because he had attacked her sister while at the top of the staircase. “I just, in my head, instantly think of Kate Moss and the stairs and I swing at him,” she said.

Heard also mentioned the rumor of Depp pushing Moss down a flight of stairs during their 2020 trial in Britain. Moss told the Virginia jury that Depp “never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any stairs.” She shared that once in 1994 she “slid down the stairs and hurt my back,” at a Jamaica resort but said Depp quickly came to her aid.

Another witness, Morgan Night, who operates the Hicksville Trailer Palace in the California park Joshua Tree that Heard, Depp and some friends visited in 2013, testified on Tuesday. Heard claims he assaulted her there while he was high on magic mushrooms, and Depp said they got into an argument which resulted in him hitting a wall.

Night testified that Heard yelled at Depp in their trailer, and claimed Depp “seemed almost afraid” during the interaction. It’s possible that Depp’s team found Night on Twitter, as he replied to an account “ThatUmbrellaGuy,” which has been posting frequently about the trial.

During Depp’s cross-examination, he was confronted with some graphic texts he sent to former agent Christian Carino. Depp wrote in August 2016 that Heard was “begging for global humiliation,” and also said, “I can only hope that karma kicks in and takes the gift of breath from her.” Depp said he was was “very irate and angry” when the texts were sent but he didn’t have a violent intent. Another text referred to Heard as a “gold-digging, low level, dime a dozen, mushy, pointless dangling overused fish market.”

The case is expected to be handed to the seven-person jury this weekend, where they will determine whether Depp’s $50 million defamation suit or Heard’s $100 million countersuit are valid. Depp has been seeking to prove that Heard’s 2015 Washington Post op-ed irreversibly damaged his career, namely from being fired by the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Both have been attempting to prove instances of abuse by both parties, and Heard’s countersuit also focused on proving defamation when Depp’s old lawyer for the British case called her allegations a hoax in a Daily Mail interview.
