Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, visited the Downton Abbey set Thursday morning, meeting a large portion of the cast.
Middleton, 33, toured the studio where the Masterpiece drama is filmed, chatting with Michelle Dockery and Joanna Froggatt, who play Lady Mary and Anna Bates on Downton Abbey, respectively. She also spent some time with Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith.
“It was a surreal and exciting experience to be at work and be visited by a member of the royal family,” Carmichael told People magazine. “She has watched the show and loves it and that’s really lovely.”
Carmichael also noted that series creator Julian Fellowes thanked Middleton in a speech “for mentioning when she visited America that she’d seen it and loved it. He thanked her for helping us.”
According to Sophie McShera (Daisy), the royal preferred the “downstairs” quarters at London’s Ealing Studios. “She spent the longest time in the kitchen, so me and Lesley [Nicol] (Mrs. Patmore) are taking that as a compliment,” McShera said.
Though Nicol reportedly thought Middleton, who is 8 months pregnant with her second child, should get off her feet and rest a bit, Middleton revealed at an event Wednesday that she often forgets she’s pregnant, especially while giving chase to her 19-month-old son Prince George.
Middleton and her husband Prince William are expecting to welcome their second child in April.
