Kate Middleton and Prince William introduced their firstborn son and heir to the British throne to the world as they exited St. Mary’s Hospital on Tuesday evening.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced the birth of the royal baby boy on Monday evening. Their 8-pound, 6-ounce son was born at 4:24 p.m. July 22 – more than a week later than the rumored due date. "I'll remind him of his tardiness when he's a bit older," Prince William joked to reporters upon exiting the hospital.

Once it was reported earlier in the day that the duchess' hairdresser had made her way into the hospital, speculation heated up that the young couple could be departing the Lindo Wing before the day was over. Kensington Palace later confirmed that the Duke and Duchess would be making their out at 6:00 p.m. local time at the earliest. Queen Elizabeth II is said to be meeting her great-grandson at the palace.

Parents of the new mother, Carole and Michael Middleton, visited with their first grandchild earlier in the day. Prince Charles and his wife Camilla also stopped by.

There’s been no word yet on the name of the royal baby. George, Alexander, James and Henry are favorites among betters, according to bookmakers.
