Kate Middleton attended the traditional Christmas Day service with Prince William in an eye-catching brown tweed jacket.

Middleton arrived at the St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham on Thursday, Dec. 25 in a double-breasted brown tweed coat from British brand Moloh’s fall 2013 collection. The Duchess of Cambridge accessorized for the chilly winter day with a Lock and Company pillbox hat, Catherine Zoraida earrings and brown suede heels.

The Duke and Duchess attended the service with a number of members of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles. Middleton’s parents Carole and Mike, as well as her siblings Pippa and James were in attendance as well. Notably absent was Prince George. Outside the church, Middleton explained to well-wishers, “I’m sorry we didn’t bring George but you would have heard him in the church.”

Prince William also weighed in on the young prince’s absence to those who’d hoped to catch a glimpse of his son on Christmas Day. “He said Prince George was really, really well and said that they’ve left him at the nursery because it’s a little bit cold, but they were looking forward to going back to see what destruction he’d caused,” bystander Kim Dawson Daily Mail. “He wished us a happy Christmas and asked if we were warm enough and he said he was very grateful for all the flowers. He said his grandmother would be very happy with them. He was very, very sweet and asked if we’d had a nice day.”

Following the service, the Duke and Duchess broke tradition and skipped Christmas dinner with the Queen and Prince Philip at Sandringham. Instead, they hosted their own Christmas dinner at their country mansion Anmer Hall, which was attended by the Middleton family.
