Kate Middleton Attends Children's Charity Event In London, Impresses Organizers

Kate Middleton went solo to the Resilience and Emotional Strength in Schools Forum charity event run my Place2Be on Wednesday, listening in as experts spoke about bullying, self-harm and addiction.

Middleton, a victim of youth bullying herself, was greeted by 9-year-old student Tierney Potter upon exiting her vehicle in a navy Max Mara jacket, Orla Keily short pleated skirt and suede heels. When Potter handed the Duchess of Cambridge a posy of roses, the new mom spoke with her for several moments before proceeding into the Clifford Chance offices in London’s Canary Wharf.

Kate Middleton's Children's Mental Health Focus

During her time as a royal, Middleton has made the mental health of children one of her main focuses, which is a major coup for Place2Be. "It was both a huge honor and a pleasure to welcome the Duchess to our forum today," said Benita Refson, chief executive of Place2Be, according to the Daily Mail. "We truly value her shared passion and commitment to supporting children's health."

While inside the conference, Middleton paid rapt attention to the speakers, showing interest in all of the topics discussed – ranging from the mental health of toddlers to matters of addiction. “She was very interested in the early years, nought to five year olds, which I guess is because she's a new mother but also because she's interested,” said clinician and journalist Professor Tanya Byron, reported the Telegraph. “She was interested in what we do and my colleagues' work on addiction.”

“She has given us such a seal of approval in a very public manner, from a woman who is loved by the public and has become a mother herself,” Bryon added, referring to Prince George’s birth four months ago. “It’s not just a fly in and fly out. You can see this means something to her.”

Kate Middleton Talks Prince George

The day prior to attending the Place2Be event, Middleton joined her husband Prince William at a charity event for Only Connect, an organization that endeavors to reduce crime by working with ex-cons and young people. While the Duchess spoke with ex-offender Aaron Russell-Andrews and his 20-month-old daughter Teegan, she revealed that George was "growing up fast," and that the Only Connect onesie he offered her would be “a very good fit” for the royal heir, according to Us Weekly.

When Teegan tried to snag the onesie away from Middleton, the Duchess quipped, “They’re very demanding at this age.”
