Kate Gosselin, the star of TLC’s erstwhile Jon & Kate Plus 8, doesn’t want people to think that mothering eight children on her own comes easily to her.

Gosselin, 39, opens up about life as a single mom of a pair of twins and a set of sextuplets in TLC’s two-part Kate Plus Eight special.

"It was never my intent to portray myself as superwoman," she says in a sneak peek for the special. "I mean, I cry behind closed doors, I struggle. But I have to remind myself, this is my one shot. You're going to mess up. Just don't give up."

In 2009, after 10 years of marriage, Gosselin split from Jon Gosselin. Since the split, Kate Gosselin has been the children’s primary caretaker, making her day-to-day life like that of many other single mothers.

"I'm one of many single moms out there. It's not ideal,” Gosselin said. “On a very busy day where the logistics aren't lining up – I have to be here to pick this kid up and I have to be there to do whatever, that happens so often now I can't even tell you.”

With eight children to look after, Gosselin admits that it’s overwhelming almost all of the time.

"It's really easy to feel like just saying, 'It's too much. There's me and there's eight kids,” she says. "I don't think an hour goes by that I'm not reminded that those odds are completely unbalanced."

TLC's Kate Plus Eight special airs Thursday night June 26 at 10/9c.
